Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 30, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Inkshift Inc. ("Inkshift," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, stores, and protects information when you use our manuscript-related services, features, and tools, whether free or paid (collectively, the "Service").
In this Privacy Policy:
- "Your Content" means manuscripts and other content you submit to the Service.
- "Service Outputs" means content produced through the Service in response to your requests, including AI-generated critiques, analyses, revision materials, markups, writing-tool outputs, and other results we provide.
This Privacy Policy should be read together with our Terms and Conditions.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways:
a) Information You Provide Directly
- Account Information: When you sign in using Google or email, we collect information such as your name and email address to create and manage your account.
- Payment Information: If you purchase a paid service, our third-party payment processor collects your payment details. We do not store your full payment card number, but we may receive transaction-related information such as payment status, billing email, and the last four digits of your payment card.
- Your Content: We collect manuscripts and other content you submit for processing or choose to store through the Service, as described in Section 3.
- Communications: If you contact us, we collect the information you provide in your message.
- Referral Program Information: If you participate in or use our referral program, we may collect and associate information such as the referral link or code used, the referring and referred accounts, referral visits, attribution method and date, qualifying purchase and reward status, and information reasonably necessary to detect fraud or misuse.
b) Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with the Service, such as pages visited, features used, timestamps, manuscript-upload metadata, and general user-flow patterns.
- Analytics Data: We use third-party analytics services, including Google Analytics, to understand how users interact with the Service and improve its functionality. Analytics data may be aggregated, pseudonymized, or anonymized.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We may use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, session management, analytics, and operation of the Service, including a first-party referral attribution cookie that may last up to 30 days when you visit through a referral link. You can manage cookies through your browser settings and any cookie controls made available through the Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and Maintain the Service: Authenticate users, process Your Content, generate and display the Service Outputs you request, manage accounts, and process payments.
- Provide Storage-Based Features: Store, retrieve, and process manuscripts where you choose or use a feature involving manuscript storage.
- Improve the Service: Analyze usage patterns, feedback, performance, and feature adoption. This analysis is primarily conducted using aggregated or anonymized information and does not involve using Your Content to train AI models.
- Communicate With You: Send essential service-related communications, including output-completion notifications, payment confirmations, security notices, policy updates, and responses to support requests.
- Send Marketing Communications With Your Consent: If you opt in, we may send occasional emails about writing resources, product updates, and Inkshift news. You may unsubscribe at any time without affecting essential service-related communications.
- Protect the Service and Comply With Legal Obligations: Detect fraudulent or prohibited activity, enforce our Terms and Conditions, secure the Service, and comply with applicable legal, financial, and accounting requirements.
- Administer Referral Programs: Track qualifying referrals, issue promotional credits, communicate reward status, enforce referral-program terms, and detect fraudulent or abusive activity.
3. Manuscript Handling and Service Processing
We understand the sensitivity of your creative work. We handle Your Content as follows:
Temporary Processing
Unless you choose or use a feature involving manuscript storage, Your Content is stored only temporarily for the purpose of processing your request and generating the applicable Service Output.
After processing is complete, Your Content is automatically and permanently deleted from our active systems.
Third-Party AI Processing
To generate the Service Outputs you request, Your Content is securely transmitted to a contracted third-party AI processing provider.
Your Content is shared with the provider solely to perform the processing you request. We require our AI processing providers to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security protections and not to use Your Content to train AI models.
No AI Training
Neither Inkshift nor its contracted AI processing providers use Your Content to train AI models.
Your Content is processed only to provide the specific services and Service Outputs you request.
Optional Manuscript Storage
Some features allow you to store a manuscript for future use even where storage is not required to complete your current request.
Optional storage occurs only when you affirmatively select the applicable storage option. Where you choose optional storage, we retain the extracted manuscript text rather than the original uploaded file.
A stored manuscript will not be used for another critique, analysis, comparison, or other service unless you actively select or submit it for that purpose.
Features Involving Manuscript Storage
Some features may temporarily store Your Content until you initiate a particular action. Once that processing is completed, the manuscript is automatically deleted unless you separately choose to store it.
Other features may require Your Content to remain stored while the feature is active. Where storage is offered or required, this will be clearly indicated through the Service.
You may delete a project from your dashboard at any time. Deleting a project removes the associated Service Output and permanently deletes any stored manuscript data for that project.
Comparison and Revision Features
Where you request a service that compares manuscript versions, you must actively select the stored manuscript to be used as the earlier version.
The relevant manuscript versions are then securely transmitted to our AI processing provider solely to generate the Service Output you requested.
Service Output Storage
Service Outputs are generally retained in your account for future access while your account remains active or until you delete the related project.
Deleting a project also permanently deletes any associated stored manuscript data.
4. Sharing and Disclosure of Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information or Your Content.
We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- AI Processing Providers: We share Your Content with contracted AI processing providers solely to generate the Service Outputs you request. These providers are not permitted to use Your Content to train AI models.
- Payment Processors: Payment information is shared directly with our third-party payment processor for payment processing and fraud prevention. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
- Other Service Providers: We may share information with trusted providers that support cloud hosting, data storage, authentication, analytics, security, communications, and customer support. These providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform their services and are required to protect it.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information where required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or where reasonably necessary to protect our rights, investigate fraud, enforce our Terms and Conditions, or protect the safety of users or others.
- Business Transfers: If Inkshift is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice of any material change in ownership or use of personal information where required.
- Aggregated or Anonymized Information: We may use or share aggregated or anonymized usage information that cannot reasonably identify you for research, analysis, and service improvement.
We will not use or share excerpts from Your Content for promotional or service-improvement examples. Only with your separate, explicit opt-in permission may we use anonymized excerpts of a Service Output—not Your Content—for those purposes.
5. Data Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.
- Your Content Without Storage: Deleted automatically and permanently from our active systems shortly after the requested Service Output is generated.
- Your Content Stored Until Processing: Deleted automatically after the applicable processing is completed, unless you separately choose to store it.
- Optionally or Ongoingly Stored Content: Retained until you delete the related project, the applicable feature ends, or your account is closed.
- Service Outputs: Generally retained while your account remains active or until you delete the related project. Deleting a project also permanently deletes any associated stored manuscript data.
- Account Information: Retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward where necessary to complete account deletion or comply with legal obligations.
- Payment and Transaction Information: Retained as necessary for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, and other legal obligations.
- Referral Program Records: Anonymous attribution is stored only in a cookie for up to 30 days. Attached but unqualified attribution may be removed or anonymized about 90 days after expiration unless review is required. Rewarded referrals are retained with associated payment and promotional-credit audit records for the applicable financial and fraud-prevention retention period. On account deletion, public referral codes are deactivated and existing user anonymization processes apply while necessary transaction audit records are retained.
- Usage and Analytics Data: May be retained for longer periods, particularly where aggregated or anonymized.
Account Deletion
You may delete your account through the Service.
Your stored manuscripts, Service Outputs, and personal information will be deleted within 30 days of account deletion. We design our systems so that stored manuscript text is not retained in routine Inkshift backup copies.
We may retain limited records where required by law, including payment transaction records, tax records, and records showing the Terms or policies you accepted. These records will not include your manuscript text.
6. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information from loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction.
These measures include encrypted transmission, encryption of stored manuscript text at rest, access controls, and secure payment processing.
Inkshift personnel do not ordinarily review stored manuscript content in the course of operating the Service, except where reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or to respond to a support request you initiate.
No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure. Although we take reasonable measures to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning your personal information, including:
- Access: Request access to personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: Delete individual projects—and with them, associated Service Outputs and stored manuscript data—or your account, subject to any limited legal retention requirements.
- Withdrawal of Consent: Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before consent was withdrawn.
- Optional Storage Choice: Decline optional manuscript storage without affecting the service or output you originally requested.
- Marketing Choice: Withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us.
You may withdraw consent to optional manuscript storage by deleting the related project from your dashboard. After deletion, the stored manuscript data will no longer be available for future services or comparisons.
To exercise other privacy rights, contact us at hello@inkshift.io. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
8. International Data Transfers
Inkshift Inc. is based in British Columbia, Canada.
Your information, including Your Content during processing or storage, may be processed by service providers located outside your province or country, including in the United States. Privacy and data-protection laws in those jurisdictions may differ from those in your jurisdiction, and information may be subject to lawful access by courts, governments, or law-enforcement authorities.
Where information is transferred internationally, we use contractual, technical, and organizational measures designed to ensure that our service providers protect it and process it only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under 18 or under the age of legal majority in their jurisdiction, if that age is higher.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children who are not eligible to use the Service. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.
If you believe a child has provided personal information through the Service, please contact us.
10. Updates to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the Service, our data practices, or applicable legal requirements.
We will post the revised Privacy Policy and update the "Last updated" date. Where changes are material, we may also provide notice through the Service or by email.
Your continued use of the Service after an updated Privacy Policy takes effect is subject to the revised policy.
